    Battery Question

I need to replace my battery in my 99' ski nautique this year, It is dead. What do you guys suggest I use? I only have the one battery, and our use is primarily skiing, but there are the weekend trips on the lake with the family. We listen to the stock 4 speaker stereo for an hour or two before crusing down the lake. We have never had a starting issue before from this activity. The current battery is an automotive starting battery.

    Thanks

    RE: Battery Question

Basically, you're looking for something with high cold cranking amps. Most Marine batteries are like this, but word of caution... check the size of the battery compartment before buying another battery. I had a '90 ski when I tried to replace the battery with a 'marine' battery. It wouldn't fit in the battery compartment and I needed to use an ordinary auto battery.

      RE: Battery Question

I will look at the size code on it before I go shopping for a new one. I really wondered if there was much difference in a marine cranking and an auto starting battery......any have any info to share?

I have a 95 SN, I had to get a group size 41 to fit in the bat.box.

          RE: Battery Question

I have used automotive batteries for the last 20 years in boats. There are web pages, sorry Idon't have the link search google for battery size and it will tell you which group is what size. I just upgraded to a 1000W amp so I went with an Optima. I'm not sure I would again as it's 3.5X the price of an automotive. I think it is more important that you keep your battery clean and stored fully charged. I just bought a $30 trickle charger to keep my new battery fully charged as it is sometimes a month between getting the boat out.
