    engine shutting off during idle

We took the boat out for the first time this season weather was pretty good but..... everytime we left the boat in idle or when it was hardly engaged in either direction the engine would shut off. Is this a common problem on a 2001 Gt-40 engine. And what should i look for as far as problems go. Also how do you keep it from shutting off. It'd shut off but would start fine when we tryed to start it back up. Someone Help.

How long was the boat sitting? Maybe the fuel is bad? is there water in your fuel filter possibly starving it for fuel? Just a few suggestions.

Idle speed is controlled by the computer, and Idle Air Solenoid on the motor. In addition to the fuel quality conditions mentioned above, check to see if the flame arrestor (air strainer) is clean. Check your fuel pressure, at the injector rail. A boat computer does not have feedback from an O2 sensor to tell the computer if the engine is rich or lean. The computer assumes that the fuel pressure is correct, and turns the injectors on and off, based on throttle position, manifold pressure, engine temperature, air temperature, rpm, and probably some other paramaters I cannot remember right now.
Stalling at idle is not a common problem in my experience.
