    Cap and Rotor

I changed my cap and rotor today, my old one had corrosion inside it. What kinda problems would this cause?

    RE: Cap and Rotor

The corrosion could potentialy (and probably would eventually) cause a bad contact between the rotor and the cap so the electricity couldn't make it to the spark plugs = your engine not running.

It might cause the engine to miss fire a bit. I am changing the one in my boat this spring to hopefully try an eliminate my boat from sputtering when I accellerate real fast from a stop, it's fine if I feather the throttle but if I hammer it sometimes it sputters and even stalls. 5.7 liter apex

The rotor does not make an actual physical contact with the terminals on the inside of the cap. Even if it did, it would quickly wear, or break the cap, or the rotor. The voltage required to jump the spark plug gap on the compression stroke of the engine is much greater than the voltage required to jump the gap between the cap and rotor. Make sure the plugs are good before you condem the cap, or rotor.

carbon build up in the cap can cause misfires inside the distributor. instead of arching across to the wire terminal, a little bit of carbon can "distract" the arc over to its direction...

u really wanna screw with some one? trace a circle around the inside of their cap with a pencil....
