    FCC Leak on GT40?

I noticed a small leak at the bottom of what I think is the fuel/water separator canister (black cylinder on front right portion of engine). I believe it's coming from the drain at the bottom as everything else feels dry. The plug is tight, so I was thinking of pulling it out, and putting teflon tape on the plug and re-sealing. Is teflon tape a bad idea when working around fuel? Should I be doing something else?

Also, I planned to change out the filter while I was at it and did some searching on the forum, but am still unclear on a couple things. How can I tell its time to change the filter, are there visual clues? Just so I am clear, I need to drain the canister at the bottom, then simply unscrew it (similar to the raw water strainer)? I can then pop out/in the filter? Follow the reinstall with priming by turning ignition to "on" a couple of times, without actually firing the engine?

Thanks for the help, trying to make the most of the rainy weather.

Check the downloads section for your engine or near years, there should be something in the manuals that states how to properly service the unit. I don't think teflon tape is a good idea for gasoline. The blue is made for water, yellow for natural gas.

Check the manuals, follow those directions to a T. Cycle it and look for for leakage. This is nothing to be casual about, it could cause a very serious situation, but all you may need is the correct thread sealant or a new screw for the unit.

Best of luck and hopefully others will chime in here who have serviced theirs. I have the filter kit and need to do mine, but am dreading it a bit as I know those canisters can be a PITA to get off.

Ive got a 97SS (SAN) w/ a GT-40 and the FCC. The owners manual says to check "once each year for signs of water" and to replace filter once a year as well. I check mine by removing the plug and catching all that drains out into a can or bottle. You can see the water at the bottom, if there is any. When re-installing the plug, CC suggests that you coat the plug with fuel resistant pipe thread sealer. I would not recommend teflon tape. And yes, drain it, unscrew it, replace filter, put it back together and I usually just turn the key on and off 2 times, letting the prime run its full cycle each time, then fire it up and go ride.

Flux, Yes, those canisters can be not so nice.
