Where can I get a "Transom saver"

I have seen several pictures of boats with a small piece of teak added to the platform that extends the length off the deck to protect the gel coat from a possible ski ding. Does anyone know where you can get once of these? I have a 2007 206. Many thinaks!

G-Man on this forum may be able to help you find a source. He donated his spare from his last boat to me, but I'm remembering he fabricated his own for his current ride.

You're right. It's basically a piece of teak contoured to your transom. I drilled mine from the bottom with composite deck screws.

This is something we have been meaning to do to our 206 as well however we have a composite deck so the teak strip would not work. On my previous boat we added some of that non-skid gator grip like stuff along the transom, it held up well and kept the hull from getting any marks. Cannot recall where we picked it up, anyone have any ideas? Or maybe even better yet something similar but clear/transparent?

They used to have this clear plastic stuff marketed as a transom saver on ebay. I haven't seen it on there in a while though and have no reports as to how well it may have worked. But the good news is that, at least at some point in time, someone was making something like this.

If you make your own, make it about 3/4" thick. I figured I would make mine 2" thick, but it hits the rub rail when you try to install the platform. I took a sawzall and cut the rough shape, then used a belt sander to contour the rear edge to the platform.

Gator Grip should be easy enough to find.

+1 on GatorGrip. sometimes people still manage to scratch the gel above my 4 inch strip so I'm sure it would happen with a 1 inch piece of teak.

wakejunky how much would a strip like the one that core-rider has cost? I like the look of gator grip as a transom guard. Feel free to email me about it wakeboardin2k4@yahoo.com

wakeboardin2k4, I bought a 4'x5' piece from wakejunky to make the transom piece. I have it on the gunwells and a piece on the bow around the lifting ring. Look at his website... http://www.wakejunky.com/ for colors and pricing. He is an excellent guy to do business with.
