    Running a little hot, I think

    Took the boat out this afternoon for the first time this spring and it seems to be running a little hot, last summer I am fairly certain it ran around 160, but now I am getting temps around 180ish consistantly. That does seem high, correct?
    I installed a new impeller and gasket (the correct way) I have checked for obstructions and air leaks, everything looks good.
    Also, I checked the manual, it says for operating temps... 140-160 r/w and 180-200 f/w
    what does r/w and f/w mean?

    R/W means Raw water F/W means freshwater. Freshwater means you have a recirculating system with fresh water/antifreeze and a heat exchanger using raw water to cool that. These systems are found on boats used in saltwater as saltwater corrodes the engine really badly. If you just have an impeller and the pump pumps lake water into the engine then you have a R/W system. I would search on overheating on this board there have got to be 25 posts with things you should try.

      I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM I GOING TO TRY A NEW WATER PUMP I WILL LET YOU KNOW I HAVE A 1990 SN / W351 GOOD LUCK IF YOU FIND THE PROBLEM POST IT THANKS

        Did you guys find anything out.. I have the same problem and I ve changed the water pump, inpeller and flushed the system.

        It overheats at 0-12mph. If I excellerate it cools back down.

          DAVOUT be sure your strainer isn't leaking. I have been told you can get a leak there and the pump can't suck enogh water in. If you have a shower or heater they could the source of the leak

            Davout...I had a similar problem last year. The issues were the result of the hoses connected to the strainer not being tight enough...which didn't allow for suction.

              Along the same lines I had a problem with my engine getting hot. I did all the things everybody says to do including recommendations by the dealer. I replaced the impeller and then the pump checked for blockages in the strainer all lines, manifold nothing seemed to help. Then I pulled the R/W suction hose out, plugged one end and blew into it. When I did that I noticed that air was bleeding through the sides of the hose. So it was like a straw with a whole in it no suction! I replace my hoses and it has been running cool ever since!
