    Help With Driveway Running

My old CC had a garden hose hookup that let me attach and run it in the driveway. It was a brass tee that had a hose end and a plug for when I was on the lake. I'm not a fan of fake-a-lake and want to find that same tee, but can't. What do the rest of you use/run.

Why don't you just unhook the hose right after the water strainer, hook up the hose, and tighten the hose clamp on the hose?

Discount Inboard (and most other marine suppliers) has a Perko flush pro, you can also get an extension hose that mounts through your transom so you don't have to raise the engine cover (v drive). http://www.skidim.com/products.asp?dept=1128

Finding fittings for 1" hose can be a little difficult. I was able to find some stuff at Lowes- I think they have a better selection than Home Depot. The fittings I saw were plastic though- if you find some nice brass stuff, let me know!

I can understand the hesitation using a "fake-a-lake" style system, but a good point about them is you can tell when your raw water pump is drawing water as it should.

I don't have the "plunger" style fake-a-lake but have been using one that hooks to the screen covering the intake, like this model. I've been using the exact same hook-on attachment since I purchased my first boat ('79 SN) 11 years ago w/no issues.

If you do hook/clamp the garden hose directly to your intake line be careful not to rev engine too much as it may collapse the hose. Another option is placing the intake and garden hose ends in a 5 gallon bucket and drawing the water from the bucket. The Flush Pro also works really well and is much simpler too use.

Thats a good point. If you use a tee, this would only occur if you added a valve to the intake grate and closed it. Keeping that path open allows excess water pressure to exit, as well as the ability to draw air in at higher RPM's. No worries drawing air- the hose will supply enough water to keep the impeller lubricated and theres not enough load on the motor for it to overheat.

                Try McMaster-Carr

                http://www.mcmaster.com/

They'll have everything you'll need, you just have to do a little searching. Focus on the Fittings, Pipe, Tubing and Hose section.

I went to the dealer and asked what they use. They gave me a strainer with a tapped pvc garden hose end in the bottom. Just gotta switch canisters to run it in the driveway. I love my dealer. Always great with inexpensive fixes. Thanks PN! (Pacific Nautiques)

Ive seen that before and like the idea. If you tap your strainer bowl, you can just put a plug in it for when youre not running on the hose. Probably cheaper and easier than having to switch them out.

Just put one on my 99 SNOB, 351 Carb. Got all the fittings from Mcmaster for about $40.00.

                      2-1" barbed fittings
                      1-1" 3 way bronze valve
1-1" fitting to adapt to garden hose thread
1-Garden hose female to female adapter
                      1 Garden hose cap

Put this in the raw water line before the strainer. No clearance issues at all. Unscrew the cap, put the adapter on, screw hose to adapter, flip valve to other position, turn hose on and run engine. Don't forget to reinstall cap and turn valve when done.

If anyone is interested, I can post pictures and a parts list. I feel more secure having a 3 way bronze ball valve than having a spring loaded piece of plastic in my bilge.

Skijones, Id be interested to see your part numbers. Ive already got a big Mcmaster order that Ive put together, and Im considering re-doing my T. Im curious to see what you put together. If youve found a fitting that goes from NPT to GHT, that would be the piece of the puzzle Im looking for.
