Tower Up or Down When Towing Long Distance

On my 2000 SAN, i would drop the tower to tow for long distance (>50 mi). This provided about a 2 mpg increase in fuel efficiency compared to towing with it up. The old owners manual actually recommended doing this.

I am considering this with my 220, and was wondering what others are doing. I know that the 220 grab rails are below flush, so I am looking a putting padding on top of the tower to protect the gel coat.

    Any thoughts?

I tow with tower up always. Bumps, etc. w/tower down would seem to me to be add'l stress on the tower joints. I recommended leaving it up.

Up. That tower is so tall when you tip it up, it could get away from you and fall. You would have some fiberglass damage for sure, and this is b-4 you even left the house. Would make for a REALLY bad day. Just leave it up.

I pulled mine from San Diego to Wisconsin, tower up, just less to worry about. it's not like gas is 4$ a gallon (yet! )
