can someone walk me through how to change the drive shaft packing

It is supposed to leak a little. Not sure if you know that or not but it should drip every second or two. If it is leaking badly you may be able to just tighten it a bit.

Mine got to leaking really bad last summer, I just tightened it up a little and it quit squirting. hehe. It does need to drip a little like Sbt3 said.

If you tighten it 1/4 turn and it only leaks 2-10 drops a minute your done. If not WITH THE BOAT ON THE TRAILER. Loosen the nut on the log until it rides up on the shaft. Take an awl or small pick and dig the old packing out of the nut until it is all gone. Buy 3/8th teflon coated flax packing at any marine store. Cut 3 lengths that will wrap around shaft and the ends butt up to one another. Put them in the nut/cap with the joints about 120 degrees apart. Hand tighten the nut on the log. using a wrench turn 1/4 turn. Run it for about 5 hours and retighten until he dripping decreases to 2-10 drips per minute.
