    Heater Core Leaking

Well, I took my 1998 Ski Nautique, GT-40 out I just bought for the first time today, and I the carpet under the drivers floor was full of water. After reading the post I see that I probably have a leaking heater core. Can it be fixed or do I buy a new one. I see that people recommend Heatercraft.com. Is there a part number or can I buy one from a automontive shop????

    Does anyone have part numbers??

    Thanks,

    Dave

      RE: Heater Core Leaking

The Heater Core in my '02 has sprung leaks 3 times since I've owned it. I have been able to solder them shut each time. You may want to give that a try but if you can get an automotive heatercore for $20 it may not be worth it.

One thing I did on my boat is put valves in the supply and return lines for the heater. That way if the heater springs a leak I can shut off the water flow to the heater and keep on going. I've heard of enough failed heater cores that this was a fairly inex*****ve way to minimize downtime.

If you shut a valve, the water doesn't need to recirculate? Also, I found a heater core at NAPA auto parts for $28.00, I will post the part number when I get it this afternoon.

Does it matter which way the hoses go back on? I forgot to mark them.

        Thanks,

Here is a picture of the new heater core I purchased at NAPA Auto Parts for my 1998 SN. (new one on right). It was part number 660-3100. $28.00.

If you put shutoff valves in the water lines water does not need to recirculate. It just stops water flow to the heater. It's no different than not having a heater at all.

After experiencing a couple heater core leaks the shutoff valves were a necessity since I'm frequently skiing a long way from home and a long way from repair facilities.

When I had to change mine, the numbers crossed with a 1968 Dodge Van. CREAZY!! I have heard that they just buy up heater cores and make the boxes fit them???? Not sure though.

So question??? My dealer just quoted me 100 for a new core. Then I called a mailbu dealer and they quoted me 80 (now I think my dealers thrownin it in my tail pipe, cause I called him this morning and he told me he bought 2 from the Malibu dealer yesturday cause he ran out). SO why the 20 dollar mark up.

So where would I find one for a 03 210. I know Jeff siad something about one in another thread out of a 79 ltd. Will this work for my 03 210?

                    Thanks

I would think that one from the LTD would work but then again, that was for a 2001 model SAN. I don't think Heatercraft has changed their parts very much.

If you are replacing the core yourself, I would suggest taking the old one to the parts place and asking for the parts # that I listed in the other thread. Compare the two before you leave.

well the 79 LTD wouldn't work. they did have one that was a litte shorter but it was getting late and I did want to drvie 30miles to check it out, I could of had them ship it in but its not that big of deal and it would be in buy the time we had out tomorros.. So if I get a chance this weekend I will check it out. So for now I just took the core and heater out and put a connector and connected the two hoses and clamped them on. SO hopefully this is ok. if anything I will buy the one for 80 at the malibu dealer. If I do get one at the auto store I will let you all know the part number. Thanks all.

dyoungman1- picture looks excatly like mine. its dims are 9x6x2 ish

                              Dees,

When I went to get mine the 79 LTD wasn't the same. It ended up being a 78 LTD 2. Have them look that up. I believe the dimensions you listed are just like mine.

If you don't have a NAPA by you what do you have? I am sure any parts store could cross the numbers. I think anything over $30.00 is a mark up......
