    Need tips on Restoring Carpet

I'm sure you all have seen my thread. I'm to the point where I am going to clean...really clean the carpet. One of the owners is coming down here this weekend to try and restore the carpet. Even though the boat is only 4 years old, it really looks like it is 15 years old. It is matted down and really hard.

I need some tips on bringing back that new carpet feel...or as close to it as possible. It has been vacuumed pretty good. My thoughts are to use a steam cleaner (which he has), and then some sort of liquid and a stiff brush to try to bring back the nap.

    Any ideas?

I have a 99 Air, which is launched in Michigan, exclusively. Michigan: land of clear water but lots of sand. No matter how much I tried to keep the carpet clean, it inevitably get sand in it! Vacuuming doesn't work well because of the carpet weave.
Last year I came up with a good solution. I used a hi-pressure washer. The 'mud' that came out of the carpet was unbelievable. It also raised the nap of the carpet and made it look new again. I removed all my seating (cushions), motor cover etc. so that all wash would end up in the bilge. Cover areas you want to protect, like the motor, speakers with a heavy waterproof drop cloth that won't get blow away by the pressure. (You also won't have to re-clean all of the covered surfaces.) Don't hold the spray head too close to the washing surface, unless you want to drill a hole in the carpet.
    This works!

Thats perfect since I already have everything out of the boat as it is. I might take it over to the car wash today after work to do just that. It can dry overnight and then we can steam clean it tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
