Fairly loud exhaust on 99 Sport?

I just purchased a 1999 Sport with the 5.8 L, 330 HP engine.

Got to take it out weekend before last to play a bit. No one got in the water, but we ran around for a couple of hours.

When sitting in the back seat, I noticed that the exhaust had a bit of a low (bass) but loud hum at middle speeds (around 20 MPH). Just wondered if this was typical? Is this the cost of increased HP?

I am comparing this to my 1988 SN.

I'm pretty sure it's normal. My 99 SNOB had a similar resonance (sp?) at around the same speed. Above or below that certain speed was much quieter.

Don't worry, you're just going through that period where you notice every little thing. That is what this site is for.

Pretty soon you'll be very comfortable and will start really enjoying the new ride. In the meantime, just trust your instincts, watch the guages, and enjoy. You have a great boat!

Keep in mind your 88 SN has straight mufflers whereas the 99 sport probably has an invertaflo exhaust system which may explain the increased bass. Overall, it should be much quieter (from an observer on land) than your 88 despite the bass!

It could be due to the rubber piece missing that goes between the floor and the bottom of the muffler. They will kind of "hum" against the floor from time to time.
