Question on Perfect Pass

Brand new install, 6.5. Ski on a lake, not much current, but did account for wind. Paddle wheel was spinning easy after install, but since the boat has been in the water, unable to check. System seem to be working correctly except for the speedo readout.

I feel completely stupid not being able to figure this out. If I get time this weekend, I will pull it and go to the river, where there is a course.

I think your paddle wheel must be working if you get readings at the lower speeds.
Have you also tried trick and wakeboard modes?

Checked the paddlewheel, seemed fine. Still have consistant dig speedo reading 14-15 mph slow from actual speed. Perfect pass seems to work fine, will hold consistant speed in slalom mode, 32 mph. Seems to work at 20 mph(paddlewheel based) but digital speedo still off at 30+ mph. Will hold 20 mph in trick mode, dig speedo accurate at 20 mph.

Update, was out this weekend, dig speed seems ok until I hit 23-25 mph, then it drops. I understand this is when it goes to the rpm mode, but how do I calibrate the dig speedo on rpm? I have been in the speedo calibration screen, but does not seem to help.

Am I being stupid or do I have a problem?

Again, I appreciate the help, even if it points out my lack of knowledge.

Update, was out this morning, dig speedo was right on, for awhile. Is now back to reading 12-14 mph slow at 32. RPMs on the readout seem to be right on.

I've got a 2007 216 TE with PP factory installed. I've given up on having the paddle wheel calibated accurately at both 19 & 34.
What I did is calibrate the boat's regular spedometer for 34 using GPS & PP paddle wheel at 19 using GPS.
At 34, the PP paddle wheel is off by 1-2 MPH, but I don't care b/c PP is using crew + skier weight to lock in RPM & it is really pulling me at 34.2 & the boat spedometer shows the speed accurately.

Another thing I did learn was not to attempt to ski at 34 in wake board mode (which uses the paddle wheel). The boat took about a minute to hunt for the right speed.

I haven't figured out how to calibrate PP for different slalom speeds yet --- that section of the docs could be explained a little better IMO.

I never really thought about my lake having a current, but I learned the hard way that the main lake moves about 1.5 MPH.

Hi, did you ever get this sorted out?

I've been through my manual extensively over the last few days trying to get my (new to me) 2004 206 Ltd. calibrated. i was experiencing the same problems as those above. Using the manual and a GPS, i've calibrated the Dial Speedo (which is actually an analogue representation of a digital input), the PP Wakeboard Mode to 20Mph, and it is dialed right in - the process was very simple. The 3 displays (dial, set speed and digital display speed) all match perfectly at 20 mpg.

However, when calibrating the slalom mode, it appears to switch to an RPM based control. therefore, we can increase or decrease the turns which result in a measured speed (GPS) matching the set speed exactly. unfortunately, the PP displayed speed is out by approximately 2 MPH, not discussed in the owners manual i have. I guess that it doesn't really matter as long as I know that we are traveling at the set speed, but it does bug me a bit.

However, i have noticed that there appear to be a couple of versions of the calibration instructions for 6.5ng, so i think i'll try that again. i've also seen the paddlewheel adjustment factor, and I will play with that a bit to see if the display speed can be influenced. for instance, there appears to be input for weight of skier and crew, but I can't access it on my system so i would guess that not all 6.5ng are the same?

lastly, as a purely recreational skier, i'm surprised that the PP will only change by 2mph increments in slalom mode, and that in RPM mode you can't save personal preferences.

let me know if you've made any sense with this.

Are you recalibrating the digital speedo on PP? This needs to be done after you set the baseline to get a proper speed reading.

From the manual (6.5)...

Setting Baselines / Calibrating Speedometer without a Course – If you do not have the benefit of a course, you can manually set baselines and calibrate the speedometer. This must be done at each slalom speed and you will require an accurate boat speedometer or GPS. Example: Starting at 36 mph, you engage system and note actual speed on the GPS is 35. Go into the Menu to [ RPM @ 36.0 3650 ] and raise the baseline about 100 rpm. (This will speed up the boat to about 36 ) Menu back to main screen and run boat again. If speed is now accurate, the final step is to calibrate digital speedometer. Note the digital speed readout and if it is reading 37, go into menu to [ RECAL 36.0 ^ = Yes ] and press yes. [ SPEEDOMTER ADJUST ] will appear. Now press the down button and lower speedo calibration by one mph. Run boat again to confirm accuracy.
Once the baseline and calibration is set, it will be remember forever. Now change speed to 34.2 and repeat. All speeds must be done.

thanks - seems to be working, i got into it yesterday. checked this morning, and it was back to being out by 1.2mpg, so i'll have to try again. interestingly, i used a different skier profile today than when i was calibrating (i'll make sure I do it from the slalom menu so there is no profile, but i don't know if it translates through to current entries.)
