    Changing ALternators and wiring

I hope someone can help me. I have a 1999 Ebbtide boat with a 3.0 4 cyl engine in it.. It has a Mando alternator with 4 wires to it. The main power is Orange and it has an orange pigtail going to a connector marked with an s. It also has red wire going to a terminal marked exc and it has a pink wire.. not to sure what the terminal is marked for that on. Here is the problem. I went to a local boat shop and they sold me a MEC alternator which is I assume a Mercury alternator part number 3816 m-n. The problem is the wiring doesnt match. it has a main power which I know is the orange wire from my harness. and it has a connector which has a black and a red wire coming out of it. which of my wire do I connect where on the new alternator? do I still use all 4? or do I put 2 or more togeather? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to take my mom out for mothers day but I need this to be fixed first. Thankyou in advance

    RE: Changing ALternators and wiring

A basic alternator wiring has 3: 1) ground 2) output 3) field excite (connect to +12V ), I'll ignore 4 to try, the 4 may be for sensor.
