Protection when beaching your boat?

Has anyone ever used products like Keel Guard? Or any other brand like it? If so any feedback on it would be great...

Or has anyone ever though about Line-x or another bedliner company spraying the hull of a boat? I can imagine it would rip the trailer pad carpet to shreads...but maybe it's smoother then I think?

I'm going out Memorial Day weekend and I'm pretty sure that I am going to have to beach my boat...so I'm looking for some type of protection

I use to bring a piece of carpet with me if I was planning on beaching. The carpet worked fine as long as you didn't let the sand build up in it since, that defeated the purpose.
If I have to beach now I either lift the bow as far up on the beach as possilbe rather then driving it up, or I anchor the boat off using a bungee line that's specifically made to pull the boat out to the anchor while, another line you attach to the boat is tied off on the beach is used to retrieve it. When you're ready to go just pull the boat in.
Keel Guards are OK if you don't mind glueing something alien to the bottom of the boat. LINE-X not OK.

i would think that if rhino liner would stay adhered to the hull that it would be ok. it is a lot smoother and softer than the line-x. also, u can spray either liner to different degrees of roughness. i've seen some pretty smooth jobs on rocker panels of trucks. still though, i'd have to say no to the line-x

I agree with JAG. Carpet is the best bet if you HAVE to beach it. We have been using the anchor buddy for years and it works great, especially if the wind comes up or there are a lot of wakes hitting the shore. They are available everywhere, Overton's, Barts, etc., and run about $25.

The original owner of my first Nautique had one of those "keel guard" type strips put on. It never peeled off and lasted til i sold it. Im not one to beach but the product would allow you to beach your boat w/o damage.

I beach my pro air all the time- no scratches and no protection. Just take it easy on the approach.

Jeezus, you guys are a bunch of weenies! I have been consistantly beaching my 1996 SSN for close to 10 years and 1,000 hours now and she is still fine. Honestly, has anyone here ever heard of the hull rubbing in through and leaking? Gimme a break, guys....

I would be more concerned with hitting a rock hidden by a sandy beach than a leak. Different locations/conditions warrent different routines.

If you beach your boat as often as I do on a sandy beach it will rub the gel coat off. Keel Guard is an excellent product, I have used the Keel Guard on 2 nautiques (1990 and 2004) without any problems.

Any issues with the wake when using a keel guard? I am deciding between bow gel coat repair, or a keel gaurd. The gel coat has been repaired once before so I'm leaning toward professionally installed keel guard (Hamby), but wondering if it will affect the wake for ski and wakeboard? Most likely not, but I'd feel better with some feedback before I spend a few hundred dollars on either option. Not teriibly concerned with resale or the appearance, I'm looking for the best function and longevity.

I would think it will not effect the wake since the bow is mostly out of water when doing those activities....plus the keel guards I have seen, adhere perfectly to bow design, so even if bow was "plowing water", I don't see how that would change the way water flows off it.
