    Strut bushing question....

Does anyone have any experience with a wooden style strut bushing? This part came direct from a Correct Craft Dealership out here in Stockton, CA...Larson Marine

Also...as you can see in the picture, the original brass one was two parts, one in each end of the strut....do i need to cut this wooden one in half?

That is quite different than what you took out!!!

Most bearings are 4 times longer than the diameter of the prop shaft.

I think that on the OEM bearings, they get two custom made or they cut them to size.

Either way, if the bearing is 4 x longer than the diameter of the shaft, you are good to go.

I think that for allignment purposes, manufacurers will use more bearing than necessary. The bearings also last lomger too, I would think.

I am not sure WHAT that other bearing is that they supplied you with, and I dont think I'd use it either.

You want a cutless bearing, and a brass sleeved one, too.

On aluminum struts, we will supply a fiberglass bearing, but it does have the rubber bearing in it, just like the brass one.

Ok....I picked up a brass one at a local boat shop...the shaft is 1" and the bearing is 1"x4" so I'm going with the brass one cut in half....

just be careful when you cut it that you don't make the rubber delaminate from the brass shell.

I would like to find the source for the shorter than normal bearings,
Easier to remove/ install than one loooong one.

          Strut bushing question

1"x4" ? get 2 peice than u can cut to 1" x 3" x2 like your photo shown, don't forget to cut it with 1'' shaft inserted to the bushing and use a sharp cutter.
