    Spray on water repellent

My boat cover is older and it basically soaks in the water as fast as it comes down, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of anything that I could spray on the cover to at least slow the sponge effect down so that some of the water will run off. I would rather not spend $450 on a new cover if I can avoid it.

    RE: Spray on water repellent

Go to any good canvas shop. They can sell you the water repellant they apply to awnings, boat covers, etc. It's not cheap, but much cheaper than a new cover. I priced some this weekend at our local canvas shop and it was about $70 a gallon. You probably only need a quart for a boat cover. A good way to do it is to spread you cover out and spray the repellant on through a garden sprayer. BKH

303 Fabric Guard. This is the one with the green label on it as opposed to the aerospace protectant many use on vinyl which has the blue label. Make sure the cover is nowhere near the boat when you spray this stuff on. Like BKH said, something along the lines of a deck sprayer will make the job much easier.

What's the problem with the 303 Fabric Guard near the boat? On previous covers, I sprayed the water repellant while the boat was covered. The boat was a 196 and I only sprayed from the windshield to the rear.

Thanks for the info, when I searched online, your two suggestions came up right away, I just have to decide between the two.

I called a local canvas shop and they recommended Aqua-tite. I just bought it online for $29/gallon + ship @

I'm not sure there is a problem, but it makes a **** of a mess if you get it on the boat, seats or carpet. BKH

My concern was overspray. I just tried to find the bottle and we must have finished it off and tossed it at some point. I thought there was something on the label about that, but it's been a while. I also remember the fumes being pretty strong.

I think it might get you better fuel economy because the boat would slide through the water easier. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
