94 SPORT NAUTIQUE DIES WHEN TAKING OFF

I have a 94 Sport Nautuiqe with a PCM 351 Pro Boss. When out skiing today, the boat would simpily die when you pour the coals to it. If you feather the throttle it will go, but when you give it the boat simpily dies. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it isn't getting fuel, try replacing the fuel filter or checking the fuel system for proper pressure. These would be the simplest things to check and then maybe go from there.

      Sounds good, thanks.
It has the PCM Fuel / Water Seperator. When I look on Skidim.com, I have to purchase the whole assembly which is around $40, does that sound right, or can I just purchase the filter somewhere?

Check the filter housing for the filter number and go to a NAPA or similar. It is a canister type filter they may not have it in stock but they can get it. WIX or NAPA Gold are good brand filters.

I replaced the Fuel / Water Seperater and it still stalls out. Next step rebuild the carb? It also has the protec ignition, could this mean that it is going bad, or does it just die and never come back?

Make sure to check the electicial connections. I had an issue with what appeared to be a missing engine. It was an electrical connection gone bad up near the fuel injectors that sit on top of the throttle body. 94 Sport with the 5.8 Pro Boss (Protec)

                After further review...

I was able to look at a friends boat with the same PCM 351. When you pump the gas, you can see the gas shoot out of the jets on his boat. On mine, gas does not come out when pumping the throttle, and when I manually press the accelerator pump the gas trickles out. I believe that some of the jets are clogged and it is time to rebuild the carb. Anyone agree???

I have a 94 Pro Boss as well and had complete flakiness with it... the boat would just shut off randomly at higher RPMs. Ripped out the protec ignition, reverted to a straight carberator, and the boat runs great! It's a little rough until it warms up but after 160 it's fantastic. My guess is that it's that ignition system. Good luck and let us know what you do!

Its either the carb or something electrical. If the boat starts and idles good and revs up good in neutral. I would think it was the electrical, i had a coil wire that was failing and the boat did fine until it was under a load and then it would miss. The only way i found it was i got shocked while putting my hand on top of the distributor. Before i got into a lot of money with the carb check the inexpensive electrical components. Just because its not trickeling gas does not mean its not working properly.

mfennig, Your problem is most likely going to be the accelerator pump diaphram. It's located under the front fuel bowl of the carb. It is what gives your carb that shot of fuel you see in the other boat. It's purpose is to give the engine the initail shot of fuel to keep from starving until the engine's vaccume can start to pull air and fuel down through the carb. More than likely the diaphram has a tear or crack causing the fuel to leak past it instead of into the carb.

In the lower right corner of this pic is the diaphram. Just above it is the housing that covers it. You will see something similar to that on the underside of the front fuel bowl of the carb.

This should be the one you'll need, but you may want to remove the carb and take it to a shop that can look at the model number of the carb and make sure you get the right thing.

Thanks to your help, I was able to find the problem. The accelerator pump just needed to be adjusted. 2 - 3/8" wrences and I was good to go. Thanks to everyone for your help!
