    Stiff throttle in forward only

I have a 97 sport that i finally got out for the first time yesterday. When i put the boat in gear and move the control to forward it is very stiff and hard to get to move. Also when I take it from reverse to forward it is also very stiff. Going into reverse is just fine.

Any thoughts on what might be the cause and cure to this.

It could be one of 3 things:

      -the transmission
      -the throttle assembly
      -the cable

Disconnect one end at a time to determine which it is. If you find its the cable, check to see if its bent or caught on something, causing it to bind.

One thing i did check while i was out was to put in nuetral and go forward and reverse and both were smooth. would that eliminate any of the three above?

I somewhat mis-spoke before. I should have mentioned that there are 2 cables- one for the throttle and one for the transmission. If the problem is gone when in neutral, that would indicate the transmission controls were the culprit. However, your original post is confusing, as "in gear" = "forward". If you could describe the exact point where you feel the stifness, it might help in troubleshooting.

If I start in nuetral and put in in grear and go forward then it is stiff. Going into reverse is just fine with no drag. IF i am in reverse and push forward it is stiff. So anytime the boat is in gear and i go forward from nuetral or reverse then it is stiff.

When i push the neutral button it will easily go in either direction.

Your terms are still confusing me. To me, forward idle position means "in gear."

When going forward, is it stiff through the entire range of motion? Or is it just stiff when going into and out of gear in a forward direction? In other words, is it stiff going from idle ("in gear") to WOT?

Going to WOT it is stiff. Anytime they control is moved in the forward position.

If i push the nuetral switch and move it forward it goes just fine.

                Sorry for the confusion.
