Engine is running hot and overheating on my 03 SANTE???

I think it may be that the impeller is broken??? I took it out today and smelt something funny as I was wakeboarding so I told my dad to stop and we cut the boat off, let it set for a bit then cranked it back up then it said that the engine is hot on the display screen. I also noticed that the exhaust manifold hoses were like sucked in like their was no air in them, I tried squeezing them to pop the suction out but it wouldn't.

Do you think it just needs and impeller? Or could it be something else?

And if it is, is it really difficult to change? My dad replaced one in a 99 pro air nautique but this one is different...

Also, would an impeller for an 01 SAN fit my 03 SANTE since the engine changed from a Ford to a Chevy???

    Thanks for your feedback!!!

Often after the engine has been shut down the temperature will actually rise before cooling off. The best thing to do when an impeller trashes and your engine is heating up is get the boat up to speed to force water up into the boat until you can get close to shore and then shut it off. Just don't let it sit still in the water with the engine on.

If your impeller trashed you could have bits of it blocking the water passages. I don't know much about your system, call a dealer, they should be able to get you pointed the right way.

if you smell burning rubber, then you know it's the impeller. i had this problem in my 02 san and i found 2 things wrong. the fresh water cap had a crack in it, and the plunger that splits the fresh and cooling water was sticking. i just took the guts out and a brass plug. no problems since. hope this helps.

        Check and replace impeller.
Vacuum leak on the suction side causes air suction and no water coming in at idle. So check hoses, check oil cooler i had a flat spot on the waterconnection of the cooler, no water at idle and lots of water at high rpm. Also the strainer sealing isseu can suck lots of air.

I would probable put money on it that it's the impeller. We had the same issue in our 03 after our first winter, the impeller dried up and when we turned it on the paddels snapped off. But you may also want to check you cold water strainer, it it has a bunch of crap sucked up in it the water wont flow through it very well.
