Would this cause my engine problems?

Replaced the spark plugs tonight trying to diagnose my engine problems and I found 2 spark plugs with the insulator cracked just above the metal case (boot side not the spark side). Would this cause my loss of power problems? I will know more tomorrow. Be careful when tightening the plugs!

Also, I noticed the plugs had black paint on them where the boot didn't cover them. Has my engine been repainted or were the original plugs still in the boat. Would CC paint the engine block with plugs in it?

RE: Would this cause my engine problems?

I think when they paint the engine, the plugs they they run in the engine are already installed, they just put some old boots on the plugs so paint does not get all over them. It keeps paint out of the cylinders.
At idle, it takes very little voltage to fire the plug, so the engine will seem normal, with a cracked insulator. When the throttle is opened, it takes a lot more voltage to fire the plug in the cylinder, so now the spark just shorts out to ground, outside of the cylinder, and that cylinder does not fire. If you had two cracked plug insulators, your engine is producing 25% less power, and the six cylinders that are still making power also have to drag the two dead cylinders around, so part of the 75% power that is left, is used just to move the pistons in the two dead cylinders. End result, the boat will seem very sluggish, you actually end up with only about 65% or 70 % of the normal power, if that much.

      engine problem

It definetly will make loss power if crack found on the spark plug since it will have spark between the crack but the gap no. but this may not your origunal problem, made when you loose the spark plug since the angle to take out rhye plugs easy crack the ceramic body of the plugl,a cracked plug will lose one cyclinder power and cause vibration at low RPM,CC will not paint the plugs, more likely some body else spray for make up or against rust..
