Go-faster parts for a 454ci (in Barefoot Nautiques / Excels)

Anyone have experience hopping up a 454? If I ever have to rebuild it I'd like to up the HP without sacrificing durability. I believe they were advertised as 320 or 330 HP, but I'd love to get above 400. I know what people are going to say..."Why?" I guess the answer is, just because.

I would also like to know if anyone has ditched the carb and went with fuel injection (TBI). I know I've seen a marine Holley pro-jection advertised, but it was pricey.

    Thanks

RE: Go-faster parts for a 454ci (in Barefoot Nautiques / Exc

I just had to rebuild the 454 in my '91 BFN due to freeze damage, but instead of horsepower, i focused on torque. I had the rebuilder install a high torque cam. Left the carbs on for now.

I'll let you know how it goes when I get it out on the water. (Having problems with coil packs...)
