Have you ever seen an engine like this?

Can anyone explain to me why PCM decided to call this engine 5.0 HO and what exactly that stands for? This is a 5.7L Chevy engine. I think it's a little misleading by PCM to tag a Chevy 350 with 5.0. The first thing you think of when you see 5.0 is Ford 302. Does anyone know what 5.0 or HO is refering to because it's obviously not the displacement of the engine.

RE: Have you ever seen an engine like this?

It is the chevy 5.0 litre. It was available for a while as the standard engine for budget minded buyers, 275 hp. I had one in a chevy truck, it lasted over 200k miles. BTW its the same block as the 5.7L. I'll take this set up all day long over the other brands budget carb motors.

Actually it's not carb but throttle body injected. So if the 305 and the 350 both have the same firing order, 18436572, how else can I tell the difference? There is another tag on it giving information on the 5.7L which is why I think it's a 350.

Sorry to confuse you, I said this is a much better set up then the other brands budget carb motors. This is a tbi 5.0 chevy motor 275 hp, this was the standard motor for several years. What is the question concerning the engine? Its a great budget set up for a 196, or 206 that is being used for slalom or fun, probably not the engine of choice for a sacked out wakeboard boat.

          NCH2oSki:
What I'd like to know is why you think this is a Chevy 5.0 engine? What are you basing that on? I don't know a lot about engines. I do know that this engine is in pro air and preforms very well with the stock ballast tanks full and multiple people in the boat which is contrary to what you're suggesting.

They have been using this engine for several years. When I was looking for my boat i saw several with that motor. Hear is the link to PCM.

This is just speculation, but the excalibur's (330hp 350ci) were all Multi port, and that is a TBI set up. Plus the flame arrestor cover doesnt look like the excalibur.

You could also contact CC and give them the hull ID numbers and they could possibly get you the build sheet for your boat, which would let you know for sure what it is.

I believe this is still the standard equipment for the 196 SE, with the 5.7L MPI being an option (and standard on the LE and Team Ed 196s). The current setup for the 5.0 CC is using is a TBI according to my local CC dealer.

From what I gathered from the spec sheets, the motor isn't a 350...it's a 305...funny thing that you say that the first thing you think of is Ford...I've been a Chevy guy all my life, and for some reason, when I hear 5.0L, I always think of a 305....

Chevy for sure (center bolt valve covers)

                    Most likely a 305

Generic (misleading) relay cover, hence "5.7 & 7.4", the specs for the capacities, plugs, fluids, etc. are the same as the 5.7L.

                      Hello,
This is a 305/5.0/275hp and you can confirm this buy looking on the valve cover for the Model/Serial Number tag, and then refer to our web page, or post it here and I will explain the code.
                      Happy Boating, Thanks,
                      Roy
