    fuse tripping

I have a 99 Air Nautique with the 5.8PCM. Twice now It has tripped the red fuse on the back of the engine when the ignition is turned on, the fuse can be reset but continues to trip every time it is reset and the ignition is turned on again. After about 5 min. it doesnt trip and the boat starts. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thanks.

    RE: fuse tripping

Two possible causes. Too much current is going through the breaker, tripping it, or the breaker is going bad, and cannot handle the normal current anymore. Have you done or had any wiring changed lately?

      RE: fuse tripping

Does the boat run fine after it starts? Or does it die again right and blow the breaker...this red thing is a circuit breaker, that is why you can reset it...fuses blow and you have to replace them. FYI.

        RE: fuse tripping

Could be a bad fuel pump depending on what breaker is tripping. Is this the GT40 EFI?

It is the GT 40, and there hasnt been any wiring done recently. After tripping and resetting for about 10 min. it runs fine. I forget about it and then days later it did it again. I was wondering if it could be the breaker since it doesnt always reset right away when you push it. Are the breakers easy to replace? and can you get them at any boat repair shop, I am about 1.5 hrs from the nearest dealer. Thanks.

When this happened to me, it did it intermittently as the low pressure pump began to fail, then it was constant. You can get the pump at SkiDim.com for around 100.00 if that's what the problem is. Perhaps you could try disconnecting the wiring harness feeding the low pressure pump and see if it still trips the breaker.

I would bet on the pump, just because failing of the armature windings in the pump is more likely than a circuit breaker going bad. I don't know where you are located, but i would call White Lake and find out the cost of the circuit breaker, and if it is cheap, get one and see if it fixes problem. If not then probably the fuel pump. Good Luck!

I never would of thought of the fuel pump. I think I will try the breaker if its cheap and if that doesn work I will look into a new pump.
Is that fuel pump hard to change?
                  Thanks
