    Wiring a rear hatch lift

I'm trying to hook up the rear hatch actuator in the back of my boat. The wiring needs to be reconnected. I've been trying for days with no success. Other than the plug into the motor itself, and a positive wire to the battery, there are a series of wires that hook into two relays. One relay seems to have one orange wire, two negative wires, and one positive wire. The other has one orange wire, two positive wires, and one negative wire. I have no clue how these 5 prong relays work, or where these wires are supposed to go. Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks

RE: Wiring a rear hatch lift

I have the same delima! I bought a used 97 SS and have the actuator that actually works, but I am not sure how to hook it up, so any help anyone can give would be appreciated! Thanks!
If you don\'t do it today, you will be one day older when you do!!

Is there a brand name on the actuator? If so, maybe you could go to their website to find the wiring diagram?

They are Hella relays. The actuator doesn't have a brand that I can see. Hella's website is no help either.

IF it helps, there are two orange (remote?) wires, two red positive wires from the battery, two ground wires, and the red and black wires that go to the motor. I just have no idea where to put them on the relays.

I'm assuming that these are the relays that you have?

            http://www.hella.co.nz/?t=9&pcid=251...&View=Full

If you look on the Hella site, you will see what each pin should be connected to:

            PIN NO. DESIGNATION DESCRIPTION
85/2 - Switching relay Earth (end of winding to ground or negative)
86/1 - Switching relay Positive (start of winding)
87/5 - Switching relay Output (to consumer eg: driving lamp)
87a/4 - Switching relay Alternative output (1st output, break side)
30/3 - Battery Positive supply (Input from + battery terminal, direct)

Pin 85 should be connected to the ground in the boat,
Pin 30 should be conected to an "always on" 12 volt supply,
Pin 86 should be the switched power from your dash switch that activates the rear hatch,
Pin 87 should go to your red wire on the actuator,
And the black wire from the actuator should go to a ground on the boat

            I hope this helps.

Let me add, be sure and test the wires that you have with a multimeter to make sure that you are tying into the correct wires.

Hey guys, Is this a automatic lift gate for the rear hatch (fully open to fully closed) or is this just the electric hatch release that is similar to the 2003 SN? Is this a factory setup or something aftermarket. I would love to retrofit my 2001 AN.

Colorado, they are referring to the actuator that fully opens and closes the rear hatch. I'm not sure how far back they did this, but I know it was on the 2000 SAN. Actually, I believe it was on whatever v-drive boats that had the one-piece sundeck.

Hey guys. I searched a few threads for relay help and this one is great. I have a 2000 SAN and need to replace the two relays. I'm having troubles wiring the two Hella relays because the original wiring had 5 pin with an additional wire running from I'm assuming 87 to 87a. They also have the black wiring from actuator coming to relay.
I have one orange wire for each relay from dash, two red wires from 12v battery (pin 30), two black ground wires. I'm stuck wiring the second relay were the black wire from actuator comes in. Can anyone help with diagram or pic how to re wire Hella HL87429. I've tried a few times and keep popping in line fuse at battery. Thanks
