Depth Guage is intermittent - 1998 Sport Nautique

We've had our 1998 Sport Nautique for 2 weeks. The depth guage is very intermittent, with it mostly NOT reading.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Jim,

Some depth finder sending units are mounted in the bilge of the boat in a cup filled with mineral oil. If the oil runs low, the gauge will give intermittent readings.

What brand is it? If it s a hummingbird - search on this site for HDR 600 and you get lots of hits as its a pretty crappy unit...
