    Three Piece Hatch Conversion

I bought a 95 Super Sport back in April. The boat needs some TLC, but I bought it with that intention. I wanted a running project. One of my projects is the interior. In August I will be away for 2 weeks and my intention is to drop off all the interior to be redone during this time. I plan on going from the teal/black/white to grey/black/white.

One of my main projects that I'd like to do is converting the rear hatch to a 3 piece rear hatch. My current hatch has loose hinges and has screws poking through. I've been doing research from a far on attacking this project, but wanted to hear if anyone has done this and how they went about it.

From pictures it looks like a 2001 SAN rear hatch setup will work on my Supersport. The size and shape look the same. In 2002 they changed the rear slope in front of the swim platform. It also sounds like it is possible to order the 3 piece rear hatch from a CC dealer. With this option I'm guessing I'd be looking at paying a lot to get the rear hatches. They would be OEM and would probably fit nice without major issue.

The other option I was looking at exploring is modifying my 1 piece hatch to be a 3 piece hatch by cutting it into 3. It looks like this would be possible with a little work and some help from a person that can work with fiberglass. This would probably be cheaper in the long run, but I have concerns about fit and finish. I am also concerned about structural strength in cutting up the rear hatch.

If anyone has a 2001 SAN that they could take pictures of for me, I'd appreciate it. I've been doing my best to gather pictures across the internet, but haven't had that much luck. things I still need pictures of are hinges and mounting points for the gas shocks.

    Thanks,

    RE: Three Piece Hatch Conversion

    Zoah,

I've seen a 2000 SAN (1 large hatch) been converted to a 2001 SAN type of hatch (3 piece). It was done by cutting the large hatch. The 3 biggest problems are: the hingest (sp?) for the 2 smaller hatches. The type of closing (suggest the 2004-2007 type). And the compartement sepperation, so you really got the 3 sepperate compartements. You need some backup up for the 3 hatches so that everything is stiff enough to walk on.
I think there are pictures on this site for the conversion. It can be done!!
