Lots of play and looseness on an 03 SANTE

I have been out on the boat twice since storage and notice alot of play in the steering. This is while driving, trying to stay straight and while moving the wheel up and down. What could I do about this? Thanks.

As far as keeping the wheel straight, you can adjust the little tab on your rudder. This will "preload" the steering wheel to take out any slop. I am not sure I am following the second half of the question though.

It almost sounds as if something in the helm is loose, moving the wheel up and down?

When I say, " play in the wheel" I mean that I can turn the steering wheel up to a few inches both ways and the boat does not turn. I hope that helps explain.

I would try to adjust the tab on the rudder first. You want to turn it to left if I am not mistaken. If that doesn't correct the problem, you are going to want to go to the back of the engine and find where the cable meets up with the rudder and check all of the connections there for tightness. Hope this helps a little bit!

Thanks a bunch. I'll check the cable near the rudder. The tab is already towards the left.

            Gotta love this site!
