What do you describe as fine? If there is any wear whatsoever on the impeller blades, you will overheat at idle. Also, did you look to make sure the hub didn't spin? After that, check all hose clamps to make sure the hoses are on good and there are no air leaks anywhere including the fitting at the hull. Check your water strainer bowl to make sure it has an o-ring and make sure it is clean and there are no cracks on the bowl. Let me know if this helps. If it doesn't, let me know.

I had the same problem as you before, and the cause was at the end a leaking strainer bowl (not enough tighten) so it suck more Air then water at idle. Look at SkiNautique's suggestions. Those will handle the problem.

I had the same problem with my 92. What skinautique sais must be right. I changed out what looked like a good impeller with a new one, and after that the temperature held much better at idle.

I would change the impeller first. If it doesn't fix the problem you now have the spare you should ALWAYS carry in the boat If it does buy another for the spare that you should ALWAYS cassy in the boat.

jensenblk also check your fittings going into your water strainer for tightness. If the housing turns without moving the fittings you need to remove them and reseal them with teflon tape. but also check your impellar pump for a too tight of belt or loose seals on the pump.

I will check water strainer next .I could'nt seem to turn it off (water strainer).please give some more feed back guys .I could put the new impeller I have in.

I would replace the impeller. How old is it anyways? The thermostat needs to go in with the "pointed" side up and then put on a new gasket after scraping away the old one and then use RTV silicone to seal it all up. If you can't get the water strainer off, use an oil filter wrench on it but grab it lower and not near the top.

ok I insatlled the thermostat correctly then exactly as you said silicone and all. my next thought was to use a oil filter wrench. Thanks I will try oil filter wrench tomoroow and let you guys know.

replace the raw water pump to thermostat housing hose with a section of 1" clear tubing. if you see air bubbles, find the air leak.

you might have some rust particle blockage between the manifold and the riser water passages.

a lean condition at idle will also make the motor run hot.

anyone that hates scraping gaskets should try hylomar gasket dressing. gaskets peel right off. mucho better than rtv. i use it on the cooling hoses also.
