RE: Replacing walters v-drive with pcm
Anything is possible given enough time and money. It is not clear from your post on what you currently have, or what you want to change to. The easiest change would to change the transmissions if you already have a late 2002 boat with a GM engine. 2001 boats generally still had the Ford GT-40 engine. I am not sure if both the Walters and the PCM V-drive change the rotation of the prop shaft in the same way. The Walters V-drive boats had an engine that rotated clockwise, when viewed from the end of the engine that had the accessory belts, looking to the flywheel end of the engine, and the prop was a right hand prop. The PCM V-drive boats had an engine that rotated clockwise, when viewed from the end of the engine that had the accessory belts, looking to the flywheel end of the engine, and the prop was a left hand prop.

i have the 2001 with the gt-40.. i wanted to put in the v-drive unit from the 2007 so that i could dock the boat on the drivers side easily... if all it take is the v-drive unit and a prop i would think about doing it...Boat: 2001 Nautique Super Sport

I always dock on the drivers side. Just takes a little practice. I find that if I swing the boat to the right, then quick left, you have momentum to the right. Come at the dock at an angle, then use reverse to pull the back end to the left.
Had a Malibu for about a year and have driven many Mastercrafts. Just takes a little getting used to.
If you really want to have fun, attach a barefoot boom and try to manuver in a tight marina.

Scary docking maneuver. This is how I dock my 1997 Ski Nautique, even with a barefoot boom on the port side. Approach the dock parallel to it about 25 feet away, port side to dock. Go to a full lock left turn, (toward dock), and turn the direction of boat travel 180 degrees, so your starboard side is now to the dock. This will give your boat some rotation momentum about its vertical axis, counterclockwise, viewed from above. Before your boat contacts the dock, apply reverse as needed to stop the counterclockwise rotation, ideally 3 inches from the dock. The reverse also stops the forward momentum.
It helps to practice this maneuver away from other people as first, but realize that when your boat is full of people, it will change it's handling
