The Belly tank is partially filling to about 1/3 full on its own in our 07 - 211 TE

I am guessing that it fills to the water line on the boat


Any ideas - seems like a leaking valve - dealer says he has never heard of that happening before

There are no valves on the '07 ballast tanks. The flow is completely controlled by the impellers in the pumps. Sounds like you have a bad impeller in your pump for the center tank. Have the dealer replace it under warranty.

Correct Craft knows about this. There are two ways to prevent it.

1) Run the belly pump in fill mode for a second or two right after dumping the tank. This will flip the impeller in the reversible pump, which slows down the water intake to a drip.

2) Close the ball valve for the ballast in the locker.

This is straight from the horses' mouth. I spoke to a nice gentleman at CC a few weeks ago about another issue and he specifically asked me if I'd seen it happen. I hadn't since my wife skis and I board, so we're constantly filling and dumping the tanks, but one day I was just skiing, and noticed the belly tank filling. Pretty amazing since the pumps are mounted significantly higher than the waterline.

I have new impellers on my pump. But the belly tank still fills on its own. Turning the belly pump in filling mode for a second helps a bit, but not 100%. It's something we have to life with it probably.

Are the water intake scoops flat or do they have a bulge below the hull creating a scoop?

If they bulge below the hull, you might be able to turn them around and have the intake face the rear of the boat, but it might creat a suction and tend to empty the ballast as you are running.

I don't think there will ever be a perfect ballast system. Best to just keep an eye on it, and use the pumps as necessary.

I have had this same issue as well in my 07 211. I just spoke to Larry in customer service at CC, and they are definitely aware of the issue. Evidently they changed the impellers they used in the 2007 are softer than the ones used in 2006, the result is that they allow water to blow by them into the ballast tank. Not sure why the belly tank seems to be the only one filling up. The recommendation was to shut the valve (as has been said), but it was also mentioned that CC is working on a fix, so we should pay attention.

Is it filling while sitting still or under way?

If sitting still, the belly tank fills because it is below the waterline.

There must be some hydrostatic presure on the fitting causing the tank to fill then.

I wouls assume replacing the flat intake with a scoop one with the opening facing stern would solve the filling problem, but I would also bet it would creat a problem where the tank would want to empty while underway. also you might introduce some turbulance that would cause problems with PP.
