    Sticky gelcoat on bow

    Hi,

I recently just bought my first boat it's an 82' American Skier with a 351w in it. Yeah, I know it's not a nautique but this site is an excellent resource for inboard ski boats.

I've been trying to get hard water spots off my boat with a meguires marine product. I've noticed that sections of my bow are sticky. It almost looks like there was a huge sticker on it at one point. I'm wondering what this could be? If it was worn through the gel coat would it be sticky under it?

I tried using goo gone but it's not really working.

    Thanks Guys!

Try hitting a small spot with acetone. It should dissolve any sticker glue, or any uncured gel coat the previous owner put on .

Cool! Glad to hear that. Gelcoat does not surface cure unless you put a surface cure agent in it or cover it with something waterproof, when it is first applied.
