    preventing fuel spillage

I'm sure many of you with 210's have experienced fuel spitting out when refueling.

Has anyone here tried this device out? any comments on how hard it would be to install?

    RE: preventing fuel spillage

Not sure if your 210 has dual fuel ports like the 211, but I open both caps to let the non-fill side vent the gasses. Avoids sprayback from air rushing out of the tanks at that last second. You still have to listen for when the tank is ALMOST full and slow it down or stop (I usually stop when I can tell the neck is filling, I don't need that extra 1/2 gallon of gas).

I've been dealing with it so far by watching the fuel gauge and listening for the gurgling sound, but it sure would be nice to be able to walk away while it's fueling....

        All,

In the 2004 216 the fuel tank is translucent HDPE (or similar but you get the idea). I slid the trunk panels towards the center on both sides. When I fill the tank, I open the trunk (a good thing) and can see the level increase in the tank as it gets near full. So I can hold the nozzle, fill till a level I am comfortable with and secure pumping.

I'll certainly give this a try. The dealer filled the boat for me when I picked it up. The guy that filled it got sprayed and I watched the fuel spilling down the side of the boat all over the Nautique decal... I guess he didn't know about this little trick. Here is a picture of him wiping off the gas with a paper towel...

That's water on the ground not gas.

I use the paper towel trick (curtousy of Bocephus). Take 2 paper towels and stuff them under the nozzle boot once you start filling. When it reaches full it kicks of with no spray. Not sure why it works, but it does.
