    Time for a new battery. Suggestions needed!

    I have an 04 216 TE. Its got one 1000W amp and one 350W amp for the stereo system. Other than the stereo amps, there are no other non-stock electrical draws.
    We dont spend a huge amount of time in coves with the boat off and the stereo running, but we have been known to do it every once in awhile.
    I'm looking for the battery with the lowest discharge, longest life and best fit for our needs....

    What would be a good option for a replacement battery?
    So far I'm looking at a Blue Top Optima and a 1200amp Dry Cell.

    Any dos or donts I should be looking at?
    Any advantages of gell cell over dry cell or visa versa?

    Oh also, I only run one battery, so even if its a bit overkill, I dont mind.

        i personally think the optimas are overrated...... i've got a redtop in my truck and can't really say its much better than ur typical diehard. to sum it up, unless ur mounting it in an awkward position, i'd just go with a nice deep cell, even if u need two of them to maintain ur stereo power it will still be cheaper than the optimas

          I've heard that you can't jump the dry cell batteries. This might not be a good option, since you listen to music in a cove for a while. If you kill your battery, you'd have to get another battery to start the boat.

            WOW! I need to try and confirm that. I would not want to be in that position. I've had to jump my stock battery 3 or 4 times since I've owned the boat (after I added the bigger stereo amp and having it run for 3-4 hours). Of course the batteries I'm considering SHOULDNT run down as fast as the stocker.

              I also had trouble finding a battery to fit in the hole in the floor, it seemed the Optima's were too tall. Just my .02

                OK, I got a line on a private label Blue Top battery. Its made by the folks that make Optimas but its private labeled for a local battery distributor that my company buys batteries from for autoscrubbers, forklifts, etc.
                I'm pleased with the price. Cant find it for less anywhere.

                I found out that the other "dry cell" battery on the market (like this http://www.batteriesplus.com/pc-28947-28947-PC1200.aspx ) has a set back that I can live without. This one is also private labeled for a bunch of different distributors but only the label is different..
                #1 I confirmed with 2 sources (one being Batteries Plus) that they can be jump started as long as they are not COMPLETELY depleated.

                #2..now for the the set back. You need a special charger to recharge this battery (you dont for the Optimas) if you try to charge it with even a 1amp trickle charger or maintainer over the winter your screwed. Confirmed with two sources.

                Granted, these bateries should not need trickle charging but you never know and it never hurts to make sure. Even my neighbor with the Optima in his Grand National (which he only drives in the winter) puts a trickle charger to maintain the batt.


                SO its the blue top for me.
