    2002 Air Nautique transmission out

The tranny went out in my 02 Air! Over the weekend the tranny started to slip and would not go into gear unless it was reved up to 1000rpm. I took it to the marina and as they were driving it around it went out completely. they are looking at it but said I may need a new one. They run $2000. I can't believe the tranny would go out with only 230 hours! This sucks!

A few things will kill an inboard gearbox: no oil, not enough oil, no cooling, incredible shift shock.
Did it smell like it was burning?

      I assume that you have a V-drive?

Its a pcm tranny in a direct drive. It started while we were surfing. We fill stock balast plus 1600lbs of fat sacs and are very careful about reverse. I was actually able to get the old one rebuilt with a 1yr warranty for $1100. That sure beat the $2000 for the new.

could have overloaded the torque capacity of the unit, but typically the prop can only deliver so much load, regardless of weight in the boat.

glad that you got a deal! they are not too hard to yank and replace, so maybe you can save some money and do the install yourself.
