    GT-40 surging on acceleration

Occasionally my 1996 GT-40 will surge when pulling up a skier. This has happened maybe 5 or 6 times out of 100 times last year and this summer, but is seems it is starting to get more frequent. The boat starts to accelerate and then shuts down, then back on, then off several times. Just as if you were running the throttle back and forth. Usually we stop the boat and try again and it will work fine. Pulling the trottle back halfway when having the problem does not seem to help. Anyone have this problem before or have an idea what the problem is? Thanks.

Do you have perfect pass on that would casuse it if not I would check the low pressure fuel pump. is this with a full tank of gas? When dodo you last celan out the tank/ It sounds like fuel starvation or a loose linkage on the PP. Good luck

Rick, I do not have Perfect Pass. It happened when the tank was full on Tuesday. Other times it has happened I'm not sure how much fuel was in the tank, but I usually don't run it down too far. Are you suggesting cleaning the fuel tank or the fuel pump?

same thing happened to me today

i have 1998 gt-40 and mine did the EXACT thing today.it only did it once when pulling someone up.it really concerned me too,(considering i just bought the boat)does yours do it after you have been sitting in the water for awhile(30 min) with the motor off.i had a friend with me who has another nautique.and tried telling me it was probably some old fuel in the tank, especially since the boat has been sitting for the bulk of the season until a few weeks ago.how long does yours sit between between being used.how old is your fuel.anyways let me know.hopefully between the 2 of us we can scratch our heads and figure it out.probably fuel filter, lets hope...its cheap  -cody

You may want to try with a fresh fuel and a fresh set of spark plugs. I had the same thing happen on a Sport i had about three years ago. Put in a new set of plugs and was good as new.
