    Loose 236 Tower

Towing home my new 236 I looked in the rear view mirror and notice the front starboard side tower leg is loose(very loose) the bolt holding it down had dropped off of it. When I get home I remove the front seat, reinstall and tighten the tower bolt and tighten the set screw. Over the weekend we take the boat out and on the way back to storage I notice the same scenario..the twoer bolt has backed itself out completely again. Is there a trick to keeping the tower bolt in place? Anyone else having this issue? I was thinking of using some loc-tite??

using a second "jam" nut on the tower bolt - I believe there has been some discussion here about a fix by correct craft in the same manner - have a 06 210 that would get loose as you describe - I put the nuts on myself and have no issues as of the installation some months ago

Ya, I thought a Correct Craft Service Bulletin was released after my tower problems...They are suppose to be double bolted now!

Mine has the "jam" nut on the bottom of the bolt which should keep the main nut from backing off. There is also an allen set screw that keeps the bolt in place. I have tightened the set screw and tightened both nuts and I just noticed a couple days ago that my tower was getting loose again on the front port side.

This is on an 07' 210

My boat was just built in the last month so it should have everything up to spec.

It has a long hollow bolt that has a flat spot on the threads for the set screw and has two nuts on the bolt. I have my speaker wires running through the bolt so getting a socket wrench on it is out of the question unless I cut the speaker wires. I am going to have to use having to use I am going to try and loosen both nuts and mak the bolt so I can make sure the set screw hits the flat spot on the bolt. Then retighten the first nut and then the jam nut and see what happens

            C-money,

yeah the whole bolt, backing plate, nut and jam nut vibrates loose from the tower and eventually falls out. The tower ends up totally loose on the front drivers side. Kinda of frustrating for a new boat!!

Red loctite might solve the problem. But then good luck getting it off. The blue or green loctite might be a less drastic "loctite" solution.

Wow! I haven't had the whole bolt come loose! Just the nuts get a little loose and I start to hear the tower banging around going over rough water. I'm going to keep the tools onboard that are needed to secure this as it sounds like this will continue to happen.

What would happen if that happened while a rider was back there? That could be disastrous for the people riding in the back of the boat, and would likely damage the boat too!!! They should have a recall or something if this is happening more often than not. Here is a photo of my tower. Is yours the same?

I have the 236 so the tower is shaped different but it appears the tower mounts are the same as yours. Yeah the nuts are both tight in the bolt but whole assembly laying on the floor under the drivers side dash. I may go with the loctite solution if I cannot get the bolt to stay put. I am not even sure if we were pulling a rider when it was loose. I noticed it was loose the second time towing it back to storage. I usually keep and entire tool box on board just in case... I am going to see if I can resolve the issue next trip to the lake.

How many hours are on your boat? I haven't had this issue at all in my 236.

                        Jeff,
It has less than 10hrs on it...basically brand new as last weekend was the maiden voyage.

                        Boattech,

I certainly dont think anything is damaged. If I was a little closer I would take it in, however being that I am 5 hrs away from the closest dearler I am force to do most of my own service and maintenance. Looks like the "red" loctite practially fuses the metals together.

Mine was that way from the beginning as well. It took me a while to figure out (I think it was around 30 hours) what that noise was. When I finally did figure it out the nuts were about half way down the bolt. I could pull the leg up about a half inch before the nut and washer would hit anything and stop it. Now I've got 57 hours and it's starting to loosen up again.

I'm about 3 hours from my dealer, but I wouldn't take it to them if they were right down the road! They are so disorganized I don't think I would get my boat back until Nov... I ordered the boat with a bimini in January, picked the boat up in May, and I still don't have the bimini... Now they have stopped responding...

Dude that sucks!! My dealer(Buxton) is and has been great other than being so far away from me. Most stuff on boats are rather easy to fix and maintain. I have always felt CC are the best is the reason I am now on my second one in 6 years. I am sure I will get the loose tower issue fixed by spending a little more time on it.

Hope you get your bimini soon!!
