    Props...

I have a 98 SN CB...Last night we were out skiing the course, finished up and did a little barefooting. This is were I noticed that I am topping out at about 41 mph. and I am running 5200 rpm. Still the Factory prob and according to the stop watch, and gps my speed is right on.

Anyone have any suggestions? also anyone know the facotry prop size for my boat, it is the GT_40.

Looking at getting a back up prop, and trying to figure out what is the deal with mine, Last year I was running about 4800rpm, and 47 mph. Same prop same boat same water.

    HELP.

    Thanks in advance.

I went ahead and copied your signature from your PostNuke profile into your PNPHPBB profile, which I assume is what you wanted. You can't space it out properly though in PNPHPBB unless you use characters other than a space.

Do you know what prop is on there now? That's strange that your RPMs are up and speed is down from last year... did you GPS-check the speed before? Everything else all the same (people, gear, fuel, etc)?
How 'bout a little reverse action...

Yeah, everyhthing as far a weight is the same. I never checked my speed with the GPS last year. Just went off of what the other boats were going, (ok we might have been racing).

I am not sure of the prop size that is on there now. I am going to check prop size, and the tranny fluid tonight.

Does anyone know what prop should be on it?

I earlier this year I pulled three barefooters out, all deep water and I didn't even get into the throttle plenty of power and plenty speed. Then about 2 weeks ago I pulled double barefooter's out deepwater, and it struggled. I thought Might have had bad gas, but after a new tank and dry gas, I am still expeirencing troubles.

Any info or suggestions please. Also there is no vibration.

Try replacing the fuel filter in the FCC. It may be dirty and thus hindering performance.

              RipNSix,
I had power problems earlier this year in our '01 AN and finally found a loose/bad connection between one of the spark wires and the spark plug. Engine ran smooth but had limited power. Not sure it explains the RPM difference though. If you are turning those RPMs and the tranny is not slipping, you should get the same speed vs. RPMs all other things being equal.

I have two other far fetched ideas:

              1) Is there some sort of extra drag on the boat now. I used to pick up 1-2MPH after I wax'd the boat bottom on my old '90 SN. But your discrepancy is much greater so the drag would have to be significant.

              2) Transmission is slipping. Does the oil look/smell burnt? Any other symptoms with regards to transmission (is it shifting smoothly and consistently). Check the fluid level in the tranny. I had to rebuild my '90 tranny a while back when the internal oil pump gear cracked. Symptoms were slipping during heavy load (deep water starts) and intermittent/delayed engagement at low speeds.

              Good luck,

              -Lorin

Well, I took my prop in a specialist and they told me that I had two blades that had lost the cup, so they were just slipping. (Answering the high RPM's and the low MPH) It didn't look like it was dinged up at all and I couldn't tell. So I borrowed the same siz and pitched prop from a friend of mine, dumped her in and everything is back to normal. 4600 RPM and about 45 MPH. YAY!

Now, I got my repaired prop back, and they sold me a new Michigan Wheel, for $400.00 out the door, this including the cost of my rebuild. (I sent my g/f to pick it up for me. hmm...wonder if that had anything to do with it.) Anyway, I have to convince myself that, the prop was the problem and not something more. So I can quit worrying.

I have a few weeks before I can ski though, with all the rain, the ditch of a river we ski in is about 15 ft. higher than normal... BUMMMER!

If you can return the Mich Wheel... get a ACME 470. I think your stock prop is an acme 422.
