Dear all
I have recently provide a new coil with integrated ballast resistor from Pertronix
STEP 1 : First off all, installing Pertornix coil :
AS this coil as an integrated ballast resistor, and according to instruction I have shortcut my original ballast resistor according to attached picture.
Ignition key side of the resistor connected to the + side of the coil.
I have done this yesterday ( due to bad wether) . I has work ok for a while and when motor gets a bit hot in temperature, then problem was starting (motor was caughing a lot until stopping) and I immediately stop my engine and verify the coil. The coil was extremely hot. Since that time I am not anymore able to run my engine. Engine start but motor coughing a lot until it stop with white smoke escape from the carburator filter.
Even if I let the coil cool down and try again the same day. Motor stil caughthing a lt with white smoke and then stop. This without engage.
I have totally disconnected wire from the coil and verify that it is still
1.5 Ohm. it is.
I am afraid that inside ballast resistor as blown !!! Could it be possible ?
What do you think ?
Did I make a mistake on connecting cable on picture above ?
STEP 2 : Replace to my original coil :
I have then replace back to my original coil with original ballast resistor connection, my motor do not start at all..
Seems not enough voltage at the coil. I still have the 12V at the ballast ignition key side.
But when cranking the engine I have 0 V at the + side of the coil. Does it means that ballast resistor is dead ?
Thanks for help
Serge
