    Low Oil Alarm

I have a 06 206 Team with the 330 Excaliber 68hrs. Last weekend I was getting a Low Oil Alarm. I checked the oil and the oil level on the dip stick was correct. Both the Analog and Digital guages will hunt matching each other at idel from 40 psi to down to 15psi. At high RPM's the oil pressue is close to 58psi on both the digital and analog guages. The alarm appears to be working properly at the low oil pressure alarm point. I am planning on putting a mechanical oil psi guage at the sending unit area to verify that the oil pump is operating correctly. I am wondering if the oil pressure sending unit is failing or have there been issues with the oil pressure sending unit? I am in New Mexico and the closest dealer is approx. 7hrs away. I'm trying to rule out any options before I have to take it back to Texas.

Thanks in advance for any input.

    Steven

    RE: Low Oil Alarm

My 05' 206 w/Excalibur alarms frequently while idling, it is only on for a second and the display never indicates anything or maybe it is just too quick for me to see. Next time out I am going to monitor the oil pressure more closely and see if that may be what is triggering the alarm.

Last time I checked, the 206 was a direct drive.

Dawnpatrol/Quinner, what weight oil are you running?

Yes, the 206 is a direct drive. I am using 15w-40 (Valvoline). It appears that there have been some issues with the oil switch. My dealer is sending me a replacement to see if this solves the problem. I will post the results.

I have the exact same issue with my 206. I believe it is a low oil pressure alarm - happens to me only at start up, and I mean the instant I start the boat I get a beep alarm and notification on the speedo gauge and immediately goes away. Sometimes the alarm is so short that you only get the words "low oil" before it goes away. The notification fully should read "low oil pressure"

I believe that it is giving a false reading. The sensors read the oil pressure on startup so fast that the pressure doesn't have time to come up before it gives the alarm. This has been going on for two seasons now. At first I thought the oil level may be slightly overfull and foaming in the oil pan causing some problems with the oil pump, but I still had the same problem after oil changes that I had done and had exactly the correct amount of oil added.

If you find out different I'd like to know. Seems to be a common problem on 206s. I'm running 15w40 oil.

Valvoline 15W-40 as well. Not sure exactly what sensor/function is tripping the audible alarm because it beeps for just a second and stops, nothing ever displays which leads me to believe it is not alarming or sensing long enough to actually display the cause. Changed the oil/filter last week, when started right after it alarmed and displayed "low oil pressure" for just a second, typically the alarm is occurring while idling or idling in gear after the boat is warm. Was thinking it was low voltage however now I am going to monitor the oil pressure a bit closer to see if that could be the cause.

I'm not sure what year nautique stopped putting the warning/info label on teh boats but in the past there used to be a label stating that if the oil warning light did not go out after taking the boat over ??? some number of RPM's there was an issue - this was when there was a separate oil light - not sure if this helps - oil pressure has quite a range from idle to ski speed - the digital guages monitor so frequently I could imagine gettin the low oil when you drop to 15 psi

We had the same problem on a excalibur 330 on a 196. We called PCM and they told it wasnt low oil pressure but just needed to put in a new sending unit. Very easy install only took a couple of minutes. No problem after that.

                  Good Luck
