Gas Cap

Well after 5 years of not having the safety line hooked up I lost my gas cap. I have a 2001 SAN, and when I lost this 5 years ago I eventually had to go to the dealer to get one. It took like 3-4 weeks. For this who do not know it is a flush mount chrome unit with the typical two prong key removal.

Thus, does anyone no where to get one or now the original manufacturer?

I got my replacement at White Lake. Been playing the lost the safety line game for over a year now.

I'm assuming that it fell into the lake.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see how a screwed on cap could come loose. I always tighten mine down with the gas key after filling it up. I thought the safety chain was so it doesn't drop to the ground when you unscrew, not for safety on the water.

Makes sense. I guess I was being ignorant, since I have never refueled on the lake. I always trailer, so I fill up before I get on the lake.

refueling on the lake is common for those of us that keep our boats in the water throughout the season. I lost my gas cap once. I let the gas guy take the cap off, wasn't paying attention and when he went to put it back on, the screw from the safety chain had already come loose and the cap was at the bottom. Took 3 attempts from my dealer to send me the correct cap. I now take the cap off myself and inspect the chain before letting it hang off the side.

Boater's World had several models including one that looked exactly like the one on my 99 Sport. I bought another spanner key there for my extra set of keys and saw the filler necks with cap and key. IIRC they were around $30-40 for the stainless ones.

I now take the cap off myself and inspect the chain before letting it hang off the side.

Yikes - you must like to live on the edge - Don't let it hang off the side - if your chain isn't long enough, add to it to make it long enough to rest on the top of the boat while you're refueling.

mine has cable line instead of the chain, seems less likely to break or come loose.

Yes I was filling on the lake on our dock/lift. I always take the cap of myself with two hands, and well this time I fumbled it. I tried diving for it, but was unsuccesful. Thanks for all the help.
