    Tight Oil Filter

Hey All...I am changing the oil on my 06 210 and the oil filter is on super tight. I am using a strap wrench and I got it to approx 3 complete rotations (counter-clockwise) and it does not seem to be coming off. It almost seems like the filter is cross-threaded. The dealer did the 25 hour service and put this filter on.

    Any suggestions???

    Thank you.

    RE: Tight Oil Filter

What type of oil filter is it? Worst case scenerio you can drill a hole through the side of the oil filter 1/2" from the end (away from the engine so you don't risk damaging the threads of where the oil filter attaches) and then slot a long screw driver through the hole and crank it off. It will be messy, but as a last resort it will come off - I had to do this on my truck along time ago since I over tightened it when I changed it and then the filter got dented and deformed from trying to take it off with a traditional oil filter wrench...

I had to jam a screw driver through my filter last time i replaced it on my 210. it's messy and not fun. Just don't cut your fingers on the sharp metal on the filter where you make the puncture. I was freaking out trying to get it off as fast as possible and sliced my finger. Don't be stupid like me!

Got it off thanks. It comes off clockwise, not counter-clockwise like the manual says...

It turns off counterclockwise, you were just looking at the wrong end of the filter.

Sure...but the manual is not clear considering the side you would be working from. Oh well, oil change is done.

One trick I use is the "right hand rule" if put your right hand in front of what you want to loosen or tighten (imagine your wrapping your fingers around the bolt itself), point your thumb in the direction you want the bolt/filter to go, and the direction your fingers curl show you which way to turn it, very useful when your upsidedown or sideways...

Was that counter clockwise looking down on the remote unit?? If so, you are heading the wrong direction. It would be counter clockwise looking at the butt end of it, or from underneath.

Filter should not bind at all, especially when loosening. It should only have been put on hand tight + no more than 1/2 a revolution, that's all it needs to be.
