    Super Sport, steering cable help

I decided to tackle replacing my steering cable this weekend and goofed in that I neglected to mark where the clamp block (near the stern) clamps over the torque tube. I'm really kicking myself regarding this glaring oversight, as previously my steering was straight ahead at an idle and at speed the wheel was just a hair to the left, which was ideal as I like to rest my left forearm on my leg to hold the wheel.

So would anyone happen to have any pictures or measurements where the clamp block is located on their Super Sport or Super Air? Either that or a procedure to get it aligned straight would be great.

    Thanks in advance.

RE: Super Sport, steering cable help

Make sure your rudder goes approximately an equal amount right and left. The plastic cap in the center of your steering wheel is removable. Under it is a nut that a 3/4 inch socket will fit, remove the nut, pull the steering wheel off the splines, and put the steering wheel back on centered. Put the nut back on, test drive the boat, to make sure the wheel is still centered where you want it, and reinstall the plastic cap. It is normal for the steering wheel to be straight at one speed, and not at other speeds, when the boat is going straight.
Keep water out of your bilge, the steering cable will last longer.

Thanks for the reply, DanielC . I know the remove steering wheel trick, but that won't help in this case since the rudder isn't going an equal amount left & right. Right now, it's going WAY left and very little right. I'm fairly certain the length of the steering cable is what determines that, and it's effectively controlled by mounting the clamp block either more forward or backward on the "torque tube."

Ok, at this point, I would turn the steering wheel right and left full lock. Go back to center on the wheel. Have someone hold the steering wheel at that point. loosen the clamp block on the tube attached to the cable housing, and slide the tube forward or aft until the rudder is approximately centered. (straight back, more or less) Tighten everything back up. Test drive the boat, and see if things are centered. By the way, the rudder on a direct drive or v-drive is not exactly straight when the boat is going straight.

It's 3 1/2" as illustrated in the photo. (For future reference.)
