    Tachometer Adjustment

Can the tachometer be adjusted to zero? My 96 Ski Nautique 196 shows about 400 rpms when the ignition is turned on but the engine has not been started. I have not pulled the gauge console out yet to look for an adjustment. Just curious if anyone knows. I don't want to go through the task if there is no way to adjust to zero.

    RE: Tachometer Adjustment

My 99 snob has the same problem. Don't know if there is an adjustment, but would also like to know.

      RE: Tachometer Adjustment

I went ahead and pulled the gauge console and there is a calibration adjustment on the rear of the tach. Have zeroed mine. Will know if I have really corrected problem the next time I go out.

How do you know that it is reading correctly now? Perhaps the original adjustment was correct?

My 97 Super Sport tach varied by as much as 500 rpms at times. It was very intermittent. I replaced the tach and it corrected the problem for a couple of years then it started doing it again. I never looked into it, but I suspect it is a problem with a wiring connection. The grounds for the gauges are piggybacked onto one another and are prone to work loose. I fixed my temp gauge a few times just by tightening connections.

There is an adjustment on the rear of the tach.
