best prop for a 93 Sport

Hit some underwater stumps, so might as wel upgrade since i need to remove the prop to get it repaired. 80% wakeboard, 15% slalom, 5% other. Plan to run about 1500# of ballast as we progress. Any recomendations? Also, is there a resource that details prop removal online? We changed the prop on an I/O, but it doen't look like the prop will clear the rudder on the Nauti. TIA

Not sure which prop you have on the boat now, but if its original, its likely a 3-blade Federal. The Acme 470 will be quicker out of the hole, faster on the top end and worlds smoother. It will turn ~200 more RPM at any given speed, which is beneficial when running ballast.

To remove the prop, you'll need a puller. Remove the cotter pin, loosen the nut (but dont remove it). Put the puller on and tighten it. Tapping the back of the puller with a hammer will help if the prop is on pretty right. Once it lets go, be careful not to lose the key. The prop will clear the rudder. When reinstalling the new prop, first slide it up the shaft without the key and note how far it goes on. It should reach the same spot with the key in place. Install with the key and tighten the nut, and reinstall the cotter pin.

dba, it's actually my boat that needs the prob. I've seen you on eorg and have noticed that you have a 94 sport. Which prop do you run on it?

I am running the 422 on it right now. I have a healthly amount of weight in the boat for boarding and it still gets out of the hole no problem. It also stays in the recommended RPM range at all throttle levels.

I have a 654 as well and that has no problem at all getting out of the hole at minimal throttle. But I felt like it could put me over 4600 rpms very easily. It also just didn't have that bite that I like when accelerating from like 25-35mph when cruising. However since we are boarding almost all the time I was thinking of putting it back on just to check if it seems to save fuel / effect the wake at all.

I am thinking of trying the 470 as that seems to be a good choice between the two from what people on here have said.

I have perfectpass 6.4 and both seem to hold speed just fine.

If you are in Raleigh like your profile mentions, I have a good prop puller you can use if needed. I am in Youngsville north of town. Have I seen you out at all on Falls Lake?

Not sure which motor you have, but the 240-255hp 351w has a max suggested RPM of 4400, while the 285-310hp 351w (Proboss/GT40) is 4800. I have seen stock motors pull a strong 5000 RPM, so I wouldnt be concerned with pushing it that hard.

Ive never tried the 654, but the 1442 and 470 both bite harder than the 422. The 470 turns a little more RPM (~200), so that is what I would suggest if you run with weight in the boat.

Would elevation change your thinking on prop choice? Also I have read some say the 4 blade flattens out the bumb, did you notice a difference between the 3 and 4 blade?

The 470 has less pitch than the stock prop (15" vs. 16"), so it will help with the altitude and added weight.

We havent noticed a difference in the ski wake between the Acme 3-blades and the 422 4-blade.
