    Vent hose question

I have a 2000 SAN that I bought used. There is a white hose (see the picture) that occasionally fills with water and sags into the storage compartment. I'm not sure what this hose does but it looks like the previous owner replaced whatever was there with dryer vent hose from the hardware store.

Question 1) What does this hose do?
Question 2) Is this the right kind of hose? If not, what is the right stuff?

    Thanks - Gene

thats the bildge blower it sucks gas fumes out of the bildge. you should run it for a couple of minutes before you start your boat. water getting into is not a good thing it will get on the bearing in the motor and lock it up. and yes it appears to be the right kind of hose.

Yeah, I would say blower hose. It could be getting water in it from water splashing up on the transom, through the vent, and into the hose.

          RE: Vent hose question

their are usually two of them and one is the vent hose and the other is the fresh air intake. the fresh air one just goes to the bottom of the boat and doesn't attach to anything. At least with my boat. (211) So if it is the fresh air one then it is not going to do anything other than it will fill your boat with water. but if it is the blower hose then like what was said above it will seize your barring. The factory hose is black but still the same hose.

Thanks all, it is obviously (at least now its obvious) the blower. The only way I can figure water is getting in the white exhaust hose is draining off skiers/boarders standing on the swim step into the cutout on the stern where the blower vents. I'm not sure how I'm going to prevent this but at least I've got a clue about what's going on.

Thanks again for the help - Gene

As long as it's not dripping onto anything electrical or something, you could slice a little hole in the bottom of the first or second fold of that hose, and let the water drain into the bilge. It also looks like there's a lot of extra hose in there, just to keep it neat maybe take out a few inches so it doesn't sag like that.
How 'bout a little reverse action...

Thanks, I did shorten the hose. I'm going to keep an eye on it and if it keeps getting water in it, I'll drill the fiberglass exhaust vent where the vent hose clamps, put a hose barb in and run a little tygon tube to the bilge.

Actually, a little sag is good. it keeps the water out of the blower, and if you put a small hole in the hose there, the water will drain before it gets to the blower. I would cut a couple small holes about 1/2" diameter to alow water to drain, but not be big enough that it would affect the blower pushing air out of the boat.
