    Ignition switch wiring for 1990 Nautique

    I was on the water today and the starter on my boat's motor kept running after starting the engine. I turned the key off and it kept going. Didn't have the proper tools to disconnect the battery, so I disconnected the wires from the ignition switch (which didn't work).

    Does anyone know which wires go where on the ignition switch?

    There are two red wires, two purple wires, and one yellow wire. The ignition switch apparently has connections for the battery, ignition, and start. I normally pay close attention to things like this, but got in a hurry trying to keep the battery from running all the way down.

    Thanks for any help on this.

    OK, I connected the yellow (with red stripe) wire to Start, the red wires to Battery, and the purple wires to Ignition. It shouldn't make any difference if you interchange the red and purple wires as long as you get the yellow wire on Start, correct?

      You wired it correctly.

      Red = Battery
      Purple = IGN
      Yellow/Red = Start

      Not sure if the switch would still work if you wired it backwards.

          Ended up buying a new starter, relay, and battery. That seems to have worked. Thanks again for your help.
