    Excel hard steering

After owning DD ski boats for thirty years I bought a '93 Excel - my son has gone over to the dark side. I replaced the steering cable and helm, greased the rudder, and generally got it all in order. The boat steers like butter at an idle but under load is a real bear, in either direction. It came with a 13x13 3 blade prop, which is on it now, and an Acme 328 13x15.5 four blade which I just got back from the shop. I will swap props this week and hope to improve the hole shot which, with the 3 blade, is like watching paint dry. How can I improve the steering effort on this boat? Can the rudder be shaved? Will the four blade improve steering? Will I win the lot...sorry, wrong forum. Any help would be appreciated.

    RE: Excel hard steering

I can't offer much help other than to let you know imine steers easily in both directions. So it is possible. Just out of curosity, did you try the ACME 856? (13.25 / 15.5 / RH / 4 / 1-1/8" / .060). That was the one recommended to me by ACME. I havent tried it yet so I'm wondering what you think of the Acme 328.

I haven't put the 328 on the boat yet. I'll let you know how it goes.
