    Perfect Pass - repair story

ok - i'm going to share a little repair to the Perfect Pass system I did this last Friday.

History - some kids borrowed the club ski boat (a 1997 MC Prostar 190) and it has the old style Perfect Pass display (the external one that velcro's to the speedo area). They left the display out in the rain and it would no longer power up.

the display would come to the System Reset ^Y and no matter what buttons you pressed - no worky.

I emailed PP and they said "New display $199" AND "It sounds like a stuck button or two"

    what did I do?

I took the display apart and after looking into almost every corner of the key pad, found the problem.

The problem was in the little connector that plugs the ribbon cable from the keypad, into the main circuit board.

I opened up the conenctor and the contacts looked like they might be shorted with a grey/dust like substance.

I cleaned in between the ribbon cable contacts in the connector and VOILA... ski time.

I think all the buttons were shorted together in the connector.

just wanted to pass this along in case some other lucky Nautique owner such as myself has this problem in the future. (sorry no pics - should have taken some!)

    great site BTW!
Current Boat ==> 2004 Ski Nautique 206, LOVE IT!
