would there be any benefit to putting on a KNN filter on my 1993 SN? the engine is a carbureted 5.8L.

RE: KNN filter
I assume you mean K&N. Don't do it! In a marine environment, you absolutely need the flame arrestor.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

RE: KNN filter
Yeah, the K&N is basically useless in a marine application. The flame arrestor is already going to out flow the K&N filter, it can be cleaned and reused, and you don't have to oil it. Boats don't run in the dirt and dust enviorments of autos. There is no need for the added filtration.Jason

they do have marine filters with flame arrestors now..
http://www.knfilters.com/marine/flamearrester.htm
but if the airflow through the SN is good enough, then I won't go that route.

The K&N wont flow any more air than the standard flame arrestor. It looks nice, but is really a waste of money if youre looking for horsepower.
If youre looking to add power, you have lots of options. There are heads, intakes, cams, ignition systems, etc. all available for the marine 351w. There is a lot more info over on CCFan if youre inclined to search.
You can easily build a '90 that will outrun a new Excalibur-powered 196.1990 Ski Nautique

Whether Al heads on a RWC motor is a good idea is debatable. There are good iron heads available that would be more durable and cheaper. By manifolds you must be referring to exhaust manifolds. Choices are limited and pricey for Fords, so the cost/hp is very high. Lastly, you wont fit a Big Block Chevy crank in a Small Block Ford. There are cranks available for the 351w that would boost displacement to 393, 408, 427, etc. but at that point youre looking at a full rebuild.
The best bang for the buck would be to add heads, cam, intake and ignition. You can add an easy 80hp over the stock 240hp with those upgrades, and spend less than $2k (misc parts and gaskets included) if you do the install yourself.1990 Ski Nautique

5.8..I would assume he has a Pro Boss and already has GT40 Heads and cam.
Ive yet to see any proof that the ProBoss motors had different cams than the standard 351w.1990 Ski Nautique
